What is Social Responsibility?
The YMCA believes our communities are strongest when everyone is included and has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
We welcome and connect people of all generations, backgrounds and perspectives, and we're committed to addressing issues that people face to create positive change. We call it Social Responsibility - but more put simply, it's kindness.
Thanksgiving Baskets
Annually, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine provides hundreds of Thanksgiving meals to families in our community through the generous support of our members and supporters.
Holiday Angels
Help make the holidays a little brighter for families in need this year through our Holiday Angels program. Each branch will have a holiday tree in the lobby with an ornament for each Angel in the program.
Gift Community
By donating directly to the YMCA this holiday season, you'll help support the ongoing YMCA initiatives below every single day. Donate to help support your community.
Ongoing Initiatives
Volunteer Opportunities
Ongoing
The YMCA offers a variety of ways to contribute to the community with kindness. Whether as a youth sports coach, through reading books to our preschool children, or by helping others improve their health, there are many ways that you can make an impact through volunteering at the YMCA. I'd like to volunteer.
Blood Drives
Ongoing
Branches across the YMCA of Greater Brandywine host regular blood drive events open to the public in partnership with The Red Cross. Visit our website for a list of upcoming drives in YGBW branches.
Resource Pantry
Ongoing
Participating YMCA branches provide food, toiletries and other essentials for individuals and families in need at no cost and with no questions asked in our Community Pantries. Items can be donated to the pantry closest to you. Located in the Coatesville YMCA, Lionville Community YMCA and Oscar Lasko YMCA & Childcare Center.
Financial Assistance
The YMCA of Greater Brandywine is a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the Chester County community. We serve people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and incomes. Our fundraising efforts help us to provide financial assistance and income-based membership to ensure that YMCA memberships and/or programs are available for all individuals and families in our community.
7th Grade Initiative
The YMCA of Greater Brandywine's 7th Grade Initiative offers any seventh grader a complimentary one-year youth membership. Students are eligible once they graduate 6th grade through August 31st of their 7th-grade year. We highly recommend that our 7th-graders complete a volunteer project at the Y.
