Visual arts programs are offered throughout the year and are open to students of any ability from ages three to adult. Art helps children and adults to express their creativity, and imagination and develop new skills.

At what age can you start art classes?

There are many benefits to beginning children in art programs at a young age. Art classes can help children explore, problem-solve, communicate and build self esteem.

The YMCA offers art classes for youth ages 3 - 18 and for adults of all ages. 

What kids art classes are available at the YMCA?

Book & Craft
Ages 3 - 5
Children and their grown-ups will connect and engage through stories and art. Each class begins with a story, read by one of our instructors, followed by a craft that matches the story. You'll love watching your little artist explore their world in this immersive class.

Young Picassos
Ages 6 - 8
Paint, clay, pencils and more. Young artists aged 6 - 8, will create masterpieces using their creativity and art skills. Our team will lead your children through projects, teaching new skills each week. All materials are provided. You'll take home the artwork - but not the mess!

Youth Pottery
Ages 8 - 13
Students are introduced to the magnificent world of clay! In this class they will learn the basics of hand-building with clay and create beautiful and functional pieces of art.

Ages 9 - 14
Young artists ages 9-14 will create masterpieces using their creativity and a variety of mediums. Lead by our team of youth development staff, future artists will have a great time imagining, creating, and designing projects each week. All materials provided.

What adult art & pottery classes are offered at the YMCA?

Adult Pottery
Ages 18+
Learn a variety of hand building and potter's wheel techniques for all skill levels. All materials are provided and pieces are fired in an on-site kiln. 
This class is an academy program.
