Why the 7th Grade Initiative Matters

The YMCA knows that as kids face adolescence’s challenges, they are more likely to begin distancing themselves from formal organizations, friends and family and to experiment with unhealthy behaviors. The 7th Grade Initiative offers an alternative where they can make new friends, discover their passions and develop a healthy lifestyle. We believe it's crucial to set the foundation for a healthy lifestyle at a young age.

Kids at this age are discovering who they are, and we want to ensure that they’re set up for future success through an active lifestyle.

Active Duty Military Memberships

In partnership with the Armed Services YMCA and the Department of Defense, we are proud to offer memberships to eligible military families and personnel. To receive membership benefits from the YMCA Military Outreach Initiative, eligible military families and personnel should follow these steps:

  • Contact Military OneSource at www.MilitaryOneSource.com or 800-342-9647 to confirm eligibility and receive an eligibility form.

  • Visit your local YMCA of Greater Brandywine branch and speak to a Membership Director.

  • Complete and bring your eligibility form, Military ID and any other required documentation (generally your Deployment Orders or Military Services Headquarters approval letter) to your YMCA for verification.
