Are income-based memberships available for outdoor pool memberships? Are payment plans available?

If you currently have an income-based membership, you are eligible for a 15% discount on your outdoor pool pricing or early bird pricing, whichever is greater. More information about financial assistance can be found here. Payment plans are available for your outdoor pool membership, but must be paid in full by the opening day of your selected pool.

What if I want to use more than one of the open outdoor pools?

Your outdoor pool membership is valid for the YGBW branch for which it was purchased. To access the outdoor pool at a different branch, you will need to purchase the outdoor pool membership for that pool. This is to ensure social distancing and limit overcrowding.

Are there any exceptions to the 12 and over rule for lap swimming?

Unfortunately, there is not at this time. Lap swimmers must be 12 or older. We are monitoring pool usage and we’ll certainly consider expanding the age range later in the summer if possible.

Will swim teams have access to UMLY's 50M pool and thus limit availability?

At somewhat regular times throughout the spring, summer and early fall, the pool will be closed to members for swim team practices, meets and other activities. You can always check our online schedule to see what is available. Remember in comparison to last year, the 50M pool will be open longer hours this year:

  • Weekdays: Sunrise to Sunset
  • Saturdays: 7 AM-12 PM
  • Sundays: 7 AM-5 PM

Will lap swimmers be able to reserve lanes at UMLY's 50M pool?

There will not be lane reservations this year. Prior to last year, we did not have lane reservations and we’ve always had plenty of space in the pool. A designated staff person will be checking memberships as members arrive to use the 50M pool. They will be stationed at the double doors by the exit to B Pool during the week and by the gate to the 50M pool on weekends. Additionally, B Pool will also have lap swimming available throughout the day.

Why is there a membership fee to the Brandywine YMCA's outdoor pool?

To provide the safest experience possible, many procedures such as increased staffing and rigorous cleaning and disinfection are being implemented based on recommendations from the CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health. These procedures come with additional costs; and as a result, it is necessary to charge a minimal membership fee for the outdoor pool. The cost is very reasonable and additionally, financial assistance and payment plans are available.

Is the Lionville Community YMCA's outdoor pool opening?

Unfortunately, we are unable to open the Lionville Community YMCA’s outdoor pool this summer because there is not enough space by the pool to adequately allow for social distancing. While we wish the circumstances were different, we will not take chances with your health and safety. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment. Active YGBW members are able to purchase an outdoor pool membership at any of our YGBW branches.

Is the Kennett Area YMCA's Outdoor Pool Opening?

As we work to best meet the needs of our community, the Kennett Area YMCA outdoor pool will open for our summer campers and swim team members this summer. We’re looking forward to providing our summer campers with tons of fun in the sun and accommodating our hugely popular summer swim team. Additionally, we will offer monthly community days at our outdoor pool, as well as hosting a free Safety Around Water program, which teaches water safety skills.
