YMCA of Greater Brandywine Expands Community Reach Across Chester County with Mobile Wellness Programming

Senator Carolyn Comitta works with Wellness staff from the YMCA of Greater Brandywine to demonstrate fitness equipment as part of a Senior Health Fair.

(WEST CHESTER, PA) – The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) is continuing to extend its reach beyond its facility walls, bringing health, wellness and community connection directly into Chester County neighborhoods. Through mobile programs, partnerships and inclusive initiatives, the Y is engaging individuals of all ages and abilities to build a stronger, healthier community.

A key driver of this expansion is YGBW’s Fit Truk, a mobile health and wellness solution designed to deliver accessible care and wellness experiences directly to where people live, learn and gather. Throughout October, the Fit Truk will support community events focused on senior wellness, inclusive and adaptive recreation and student engagement. Each event will feature on-site fitness activities, health resources and opportunities to connect with YGBW staff.

The Fit Truk will be visiting the events below on the following days:

  • (Past) Tuesday, October 14: Senior Expo at Sturzebecker Health Science Building, West Chester University, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The Fit Truk offered fitness demonstrations, balance and mobility activities and information on YGBW’s ForeverWell programs for adults age 55+. The Senior Expo connected seniors and their families with local resources, services and programs that support healthy aging and community connection.
  • Thursdays, October 23, October 30: Special Olympics Long Distance Run/Walk Team Practice at Walnut Lane Park starting at 5:30 PM. In partnership with EmpowerU Specialty Fitness, the YGBW Wellness team will leverage the Fit Truk to provide warm-up activities and training exercises for PA Special Olympics athletes participating in long-distance training. These weekly practices allow athletes to train in a supportive environment and build endurance as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
  • Saturday, October 25: Lincoln University Homecoming, John Miller Dickey Hall, Lincoln University, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The Fit Truk will host mini fitness challenges and interactive wellness activities for students, alumni and families. The event celebrates school pride while highlighting opportunities for students to stay active and engaged in their community by joining a YGBW branch.

“YGBW is redefining what it means to be a health and wellness leader in Chester County,” said Veronica Lopez, Vice President of Health Strategies at the YMCA of Greater Brandywine. “The Fit Truk is an innovative solution geared toward creating a more inclusive and equitable future for community health in Chester County. By bringing wellness resources directly to neighborhoods, campuses and public spaces, we are removing barriers to access and positioning YGBW at the center of health and wellness.

YGBW’s Fit Truk and community-based programming are part of its broader effort to reduce barriers to wellness and strengthen community ties. For more information on the Fit Truk and its community events, please visit https://ymcagbw.org/
