Indoor swimming pools at the Jennersville YMCA are perfect for lap swimming or open swim.

 

Train to become lifeguard certified and learn about water safety and life-saving procedures. This three- to four-day training includes first aid, CPR, AED and more. Upon successful completion of the training, participants will be license through Ellis and Associates. 

The pre-requisites to be a lifeguard include a minimum 100-yard swim using either freestyle or breaststroke, minimum 1-minute treading water without hands, and ability to descend feet first to the deepest part of the pool and retrieve a 10lb brick. 

Once in the lifeguard course students will be taught and tested on their ability to perform CPR, First Aid, Oxygen administration, and water rescue skills. All YMCA of Greater Brandywine lifeguards must go through annual certification.

Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Course

Prerequisites: swim 200 yards (8 lengths); tread water for 2 minutes without using your hands; perform feet first surface dive to lift a 10-pound brick off the bottom of the pool.

Jennersville YMCA lifeguards and Avon Grove High School seniors Long Tran, Josh Prosser and Sean Kushnerock recently saved a member’s life, thanks to the skills they learned in their training at the YMCA.

YMCA Lifeguards play a key role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all members and program participants in the aquatic facilities. This position is responsible for maintaining constant vigilance of the pool area, enforcing safety rules, preventing accidents, and responding quickly and effectively to emergencies.
