YMCA of Greater Brandywine Launches Jr. NBA Basketball Leagues, Expands Teen Programs

(WEST CHESTER, PA) – In a growing effort to provide elite experiences to youth in our community, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) is rolling out Jr. NBA youth basketball leagues this winter. Leagues are organized by age to foster collaboration and growth, ranging from ages 5 to 17. Practice starts Nov 3 and games start 11/15 at YGBW branches across the county – registration is open through Oct 31.
“Jr NBA leagues provide age-appropriate instruction and competitive play that is accessible, equitable and development-driven – enabling children the chance to refine their skills in a supportive environment,” says Bridgette Barbera-Byrne, Senior Association Director of Youth Programs and Summer Camp. “We’re so excited to roll out our new Jr. NBA basketball leagues to help our young athletes build on fundamental skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting and teamwork and sportsmanship – in a really fun way.”
YGBW membership is not required to register for Jr NBA leagues. Financial assistance is available to ensure that every child has the chance to play.
Expansion of Teen Programs
In addition to launching Jr. NBA leagues, YGBW has expanded Teen Programs to include Youth and Government at the Upper Main Line YMCA (UMLY) in Berwyn and has expanded the age range of the Y Achievers Program, now serving ages 10 - 18, at the Coatesville and Jennersville YMCAs. The organization’s popular 7th Grade Initiative continues to be available at YGBW branches in Coatesville, Jennersville, Kennett Square, Exton, West Chester, and Berwyn.
A free youth membership is included in the 7th Grade Initiative and Y Achievers programs. For more information or to register, click here or contact your local YGBW branch.
