Drink in the H20

Two seniors drinking water after exercising

With summer temperatures moving in quickly, it is important to stay hydrated throughout the day. Our bodies need water to stay healthy, energized and refreshed.

Want to know how much water you should be drinking each day? The Mayo Clinic provides a recommendation - plus the many health benefits of staying hydrated.

Below are our tips for how to increase your water intake each day. Your body will thank you!

  1. Start your day with a glass of water.
Want to get a jump start on your water intake each morning? Try having a glass of water each morning before you eat or drink anything else. When you prioritize your water intake, you are prioritizing your health!

  2. Freshen up your water with fruit.
Does drinking water all day sound boring? Try infusing your water with slices of fresh fruit. Lemon slices are a common choice - but the options are endless. Try slices of strawberries, cucumbers, oranges, lime or other favorite fruits.

  3. Keep a pitcher in the fridge.
Consider keeping a pitcher or mason jar full of water in your refrigerator. The next time you are searching for something to eat or drink, you'll notice the pitcher and be reminded to take a drink.

  4. Carry a water bottle with you.
Going out for the day? Fill a reusable water bottle with water and bring it with you. You'll have plenty of opportunity to take sips throughout the day. Worried about it spilling or being to heavy to carry? Bring an empty reusable water bottle. Once you reach your destination, ask if there is a water bottle filling station where you can fill up and stay hydrated!

  5. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables.
Fresh fruits and veggies contain water and are hydrating and can help quench your thirst. If you aren't eating five servings of fresh fruits and veggies, try swapping out a packaged snack food for a piece of fresh fruit or a salad each day.
