Your Overall Health Begins with Mental Health
Mental Health is talked about often these days. But have you stopped to think about what mental health is?
Mental health starts with your thoughts - which affect how you feel and ultimately how you act. Your mental health impacts your relationship with others and your physical health, too.
As a foundational building block of your overall health, it is critical that you care for your mental health just as much as your physical health.
If you are ready to focus on your mental health and want to learn more, try one of the following.
- Attend our Mental Health Fair
Join us at the West Chester Area YMCA on Saturday, May 18 for a Mental Health Fair and Forum. The event features resources and tools to help you learn about and take care of your health.
- Learn About Mindfulness for Women
The Chester County Hospital presents a FREE workshop for women on Wednesday, May 15. You'll learn mindfulness techniques to help manage daily stress.
- Prevent Substance Use

If you prefer the comfort of your own home, Y360 is the way to go. You can access a catalog of meditations on demand to fit your schedule. Y360 is included with your YGBW membership.
- Register for Mental Health First Aid
From the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. There are separate courses for Youth and Adults.
Chester County offers several upcoming MHFA sessions that are free to attend.
- Get Involved with NAMI Chester County
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) provides support, education and advocacy to people and families impacted by mental illness. You can get involved by attending an upcoming event or streaming their weekly mental health radio show.
- Register to Learn Life Skills
Learning Life Skills Together is a free series of educational videos provided by the West Chester University Center for Contemplative Studies, in partnership with State Senator Carolyn Comitta. This program empowers parents and caregivers to prevent mental health crises by building on known skills.
- Be Aware of Nearby Resources
Chester County Hospital maintains a list of local mental health resources. It is important to be informed about the resources available to you and your loved ones.
This is just the tip of the iceberg that is mental health. We are with you on your journey and encourage you to care for your mental health daily. Pick one small thing and stick with it. You are worth it!
