YMCA’s Guillermina Rios Partners with The Fund for Women and Girls to Celebrate the Diversity of Hispanic Heritage Month
(West Chester, PA) – The Fund for Women and Girls invites all who are passionate about creating inclusive and equitable spaces to join a free webinar focused on celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month through Dimensions of Diversity. It’s all part of the Fund’s monthly webinar series that highlights important work being done by women throughout Chester County.
This month’s webinar features the expertise of Guillermina Rios who will lead attendees through an exercise designed to showcase the intricacies of identity - and how identity impacts us and others.
Rios serves as the Director of Childcare and Camp Administration for the YMCA of Greater Brandywine, a YMCA association that operates eight childcare programs year-round and eight camp locations throughout the summer. She also leads the association’s Multi-Cultural Employee Resource Group, is responsible for training staff in Dimensions of Diversity and serves on the Hispanic Latino Leadership Network for YMCA of the USA.
Significance of Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from Sep 15 – Oct 15. The month commemorates the cultures and contributions of Americans with ancestral roots in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. National Hispanic Heritage Month has been celebrated in the US for more than 50 years.
“Hispanic Heritage Month is a true celebration of diversity,” explains Rios. “People often think that Hispanic culture is singular – but in reality, Hispanic culture is made up of many diverse cultures, each with their own traditions.”
“With the wide array of the diversity celebrated during Hispanic Heritage month, I’m especially excited to lead the Dimensions of Diversity webinar for The Fund this month,” Rios continues. “People often think that their identity is singular – but our identities are made up of multiple lenses. I hope that many will join me on September 21 to learn more about the nuances of identity and to see the world through a different perspective.”
