8 Ways the Y Helps Make the 'Back to School' Transition More Fun

A father and son participate in a fitness class at the YMCA doing planks.

Summer days seem to fly and before you know it, “back to school” time is here.  While you work to plan your family’s schedule, we’re here to help ensure a productive and fun transition into fall. Here are eight ways “back to school” is better with the Y.

  1. Group Exercise Classes that Fit Your Schedule

We know how challenging it can be to fit in the responsibilities of the day and find time to workout. We offer a wide variety of group exercise classes at various times throughout the day, plus you can access our Virtual YMCA from anywhere, at any time – all included with your YMCA membership.

  2. Sports Programs that Keep Kids Active

Looking to help your kiddo expend energy? We have a class for that. The Y offers a variety of sports classes for children as young as 18 months, including soccer, tennis, gymnastics and more. Our instructors cover the fundamentals, help children make friends and promote fun.

New this year – Ninja Parkour Gymnastics for kids ages 6 – 12, held in our brand new gymnastics training facility in West Chester.

  3. Learn a Valuable Life Skill

Drowning is one of the leading causes of preventable death, particularly for children under 10. The Y offers swim lessons for infants as young as 6 months through adult classes. Our certified instructors work to ensure that your family members build confidence and skills to stay safe around the water.

If your kiddo is already confident in the pool, consider signing them up for a swim team at the Y.

  4. Flexible Childcare Options for All Ages

We know how challenging balancing work and home life can be for families, which is why we offer flexible childcare options starting for children as young as six weeks old up through 12 years old.

Childcare is available as early as 6:30 AM and goes as late as 6 PM at multiple locations across Chester County.

  5. Opportunities for Family Fun

In our busy, digitally focused world it can be tough for families to spend quality time together without being distracted by a screen. The Y offers options for families to get together and have fun with activities like open gym times, open swim times and special family events. Many are free with your membership.

  6. Join a Team

The Y is a great place to work and play! Whether it is a first job for a teen or a part-time job for a working parent we have a variety of job opportunities including lifeguards, front desk associates and childcare staff. Plus, we offer flexible schedules, great perks (did we mention the free membership and program discounts) and fantastic coworkers.

  7. Introduce the Arts

Arts & humanities programming at the Y is a great way to allow your child to get in touch with their creative side. Ranging from theater to pottery, classes at the Y encourage your child to be true to themselves and express how they’re feeling in a safe, supportive environment.

  8. Take Part in the Fastest Growing Sport in America

Mix up your workout routine by adding in Pickleball, the fastest-growing sport in the country! Combining elements of badminton, tennis and ping pong, pickleball is easy to learn and fun for the whole family. Most pickleball offerings are included with your YMCA membership.

We have indoor and outdoor open pickleball play, special events, private lessons and a Pickleball Basics class to help you learn how to play.

To learn more about all of the programming options offered at the Y stop by the welcome desk at your closest branch or view our Activity Finder to explore all of the program options we offer.
