Statement from the YMCA of Greater Brandywine on the shooting at Lincoln University

October 27, 2025

At the YMCA of Greater Brandywine, we are heartbroken by the tragic shooting that took place at Lincoln University last Saturday, October 25, 2025 during Homecoming weekend. One person lost their life and six others were injured in the violence.

Our thoughts are with the person that was killed, the six individuals who were wounded, their families and loved ones, and every student, faculty and staff member, alumni, and neighbor who is carrying fear and grief.

The mission of the YMCA is to strengthen community; and today, that means standing with Lincoln University, supporting those impacted by this act of violence, and recognizing the trauma that moments like this create.

YGBW will continue to stand alongside all of our partners in Chester County in promoting healing, safety, and mental well-being for all. We encourage anyone who is struggling to seek support, lean on trusted community resources, and check in on one another in the days ahead.

We grieve with you. We stand with you. We are here for you.

Sincerely,
Bertram L. Lawson II, President & CEO (Lincoln University Alumni)
