Organization Dedicates Upper Main Line YMCA 50-Meter Pool in His Memory

(BERWYN, PA)The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) honored the late Robert “Bob” Jones with the dedication of the 50-Meter Pool at the Upper Main Line YMCA (UMLY) - proudly known as the “Robert B. Jones Memorial Pool”. Friends, family and YGBW staff gathered to celebrate Jones’ extraordinary generosity to the community in support of the YMCA’s mission to serve all.

A competitive swimmer throughout his life, Jones was beloved by the UMLY community, where he swam daily. Friends, coaches and teammates knew him to be a leader - both in the pool and out in the community. He is remembered for his dedication, warmth and generosity.

In tribute to her late husband, Debbie Jones made a transformational $750,000 gift to YGBW to ensure that children, families, seniors and the broader community will benefit from vital YMCA programs and services for generations to come.

A Legacy Lives On
“The Jones Family’s generosity and belief in the mission of the YMCA serve as a shining example of how a few people’s dedication can shape a community,” said Bertram L. Lawson II, President and CEO for YGBW. “By naming this pool in Bob’s memory, we ensure that his spirit of giving lives on each day as families and youth gather here to learn, grow and thrive.”

The reception, held aptly near the pool deck, was filled with gratitude and reflection, featuring remarks by YGBW Leadership and Debbie Jones, who spoke to her late husband’s enduring impact. Guests gathered poolside to unveil the new signage bearing Jones’ name - a lasting reminder of his spirit of generosity.

For decades, the UMLY 50-Meter Pool has been a place where children learn to swim, athletes train and families come together. Thanks to the Jones family’s generosity, that impact will only grow.

“Debbie has shown how one person’s kindness can make a lasting ripple through an entire community,” continues Lawson. “We are smiling today as Bob’s legacy lives on - helping those around him to thrive.”
