LIVESTRONG at the Y Impact Tour

Cancer affects countless individuals and families, making survivorship support essential. In 2024, the National Cancer Institute estimated 2,001,140 new cancer diagnoses in the United States. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA offers a free, 12-week, evidence-based program designed to help adult cancer survivors regain strength, confidence, and overall well-being through guided exercise and community support.
On March 20, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM, the Kennett Area YMCA hosted a LIVESTRONG Impact Tour, welcoming 12 attendees, including donors, elected officials, and community partners. The event provided an inside look at how the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) transforms cancer survivorship through wellness and connection.
A highlight of the event was a heartfelt testimony from a LIVESTRONG instructor and breast cancer survivor, who shared her personal experience in the program and the profound impact it had on her recovery.
Attendees shared powerful reflections on the program’s value:
-
A donor expressed that with a greater understanding of the program’s impact, she feels better equipped to advocate for funding within her network.
-
A community health representative, serving patients with poorer health outcomes due to social determinants, shared enthusiasm about the opportunity, stating, "We are eager to introduce this program to our patients who qualify and explore ways to connect them with this vital resource."
The YGBW remains committed to improving the odds for cancer survivors by providing a supportive, strength-building environment. Through initiatives like LIVESTRONG at the Y, the YGBW continues to empower individuals living with, through, and beyond cancer.
Through Impact Tours, our mission-focused work speaks for itself—inviting others to join us in making a difference.
