Giving Thanks and Giving Back!
November is a month for pausing, reflecting and giving thanks for all that we have. Though sometimes hard to recognize, the gifts around us are plentiful - seeing the vibrant backdrop of red and orange leaves on your commute, snuggling under a warm blanket on a cool night or catching up with a neighbor. Among all blessings, there are three that top our list this month at the YMCA of Greater Brandywine.
Three Reasons to Give Thanks
Meeting and Greeting – Smiles, waves, chats. It is no secret that we love to see members in our branches. We especially love to see members meeting each other in our knitting groups, group exercise classes or family programs. The Y is all about building connections and building community – and we are grateful for the chance to do so every day of the week.
Trying Something New – From booty builders to bridge club, our branches provide a variety of classes, events, programs and equipment for you to try. Why? Because try is one of our favorite words. When we try, we learn. When we learn, we grow. At the Y, we never stop growing.
Supporting Each Other – Each day we witness members of our community coming together in big ways and in small. A staff member giving a tour to a guest, a mom showing a grandparent where to wait during swim lessons, and dedicated volunteers unloading a truck full of coats for our annual coat drive. The beauty of being part of a strong community is that we uplift each other.
Here at the Y, we know that this community has our back. Last year alone, 4,800 volunteers helped to bring our mission to life. In return, please know that the YMCA of Greater Brandywine is here to support you in times of need. Below are three family-friendly ways that we are rallying around our community this month. Please contact your local branch if you find yourself in need this holiday season – or at any time of the year.
Three Ways to Give Back
Thanksgiving Basket Drive - Now through November 19, visit the membership desk at your local branch to get or give a Thanksgiving meal.
STRIDE for ALL – On November 19, volunteer your time as a course monitor or finish line assistant at STRIDE for ALL. This inclusive obstacle course strikes a balance between physical and mental health for children in grades 3-5. This event is guaranteed to give your heart that warm and fuzzy feeling.
Holiday Angels – From November 21 – December 17, you can make the holidays a little brighter for a family in need. Contribute gift wrapping supplies or sign up to support a child with holiday gifts or a gift card to be redeemed for swim lessons and other Y programs. Together, we plan to support 375 children this season.
Whether you are asking for help or offering help, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine is here for you. Because together is the best way through.
