YMCA of Greater Brandywine Hiring Mentors to Support Local Students

A volunteer from the Chester County Food Bank visits YGBW’s Before and After School Enrichment (BASE) students at a local elementary school to teach a lesson on civic engagement.

Part-time roles in Malvern, Kennett Square and Honey Brook include FREE Family YMCA Membership

(CHESTER COUNTY, PA)The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) is hiring part-time mentors to support elementary school students through its Before and After School Enrichment (BASE) program. Positions are available via the Upper Main Line YMCA, Kennett Area YMCA and Coatesville YMCA – with mentors providing care directly in local school district facilities.

BASE Mentors receive a free family YGBW membership – which includes access to seven branches across Chester County. YGBW also provides robust member benefits, including tuition reimbursement at select local universities, generous discounts on childcare and YMCA programs and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community.

“In just a few hours each week, our BASE Mentors enrich our communities, providing critical care to local school children,” says Claudia Aust, Senior Association Director of Licensed Childcare and BASE Programming for YGBW. “The impact of BASE Mentors is felt by the entire family as working parents rely on before and after school care so that they can continue working and contributing to our local economy. It is tough when work hours don’t align with the hours of elementary school – which makes our support vital to families.”

YGBW BASE Mentors play a key role in helping children succeed academically and socially – outside of elementary school hours when many caregivers are expected to be working. Mentors guide daily enrichment activities, provide homework support and help build character and confidence through the Y’s nationally recognized after school enrichment program.

Positions are part-time and flexible. Shifts vary slightly based upon school district schedules, but generally before-school shifts run from 7AM – 9AM and after-school shifts run from 3PM – 6PM. Starting pay ranges from $15 to $20 per hour, depending on experience and education. Applicants must have a high school diploma and at least two years (or 2,500 hours) of experience working with children.
