The Arts and Youth Development
Back to school season is upon us. As our children head back to school, they also head back to activities, sports and clubs. As you plan your family's fall schedule, we're highlighting the benefits of Arts & Humanities programs.
Arts & Humanities include dance, theater, stage design, technical theater, fine arts, culinary arts and more. No matter which program your child decides to try, rest assured that they will receive a well-rounded experience that will support their growth and development.
Agency & Confidence - Agency, or having influence over our decisions, is an important aspect to positive mental health. In the real world, we can't always give children full autonomy. But, in the world of arts, children often have agency over creative decisions, leading to a gain in confidence - which contributes to positive mental health.
Belonging & Connection - We all need a space to belong and feel connected. Tapping into shared interests in the Arts can provide a safe space where children can connect and feel a sense of belonging. This provides stability for them to express themselves and try new things - all while feeling grounded.
Cognition & Learning - The Arts provide an opportunity to learn through experimentation. In theater and dance programs, children roleplay real-life scenarios, providing them with an opportunity to learn through someone else's lens. In fine arts, children have the ability to make creative decisions and learn from their choices, as well as any mistakes.
