Summer Savings Start at YGBW with Free Access to Outdoor Pools

The outdoor pool at the West Chester Area YMCA includes a pirate ship water slide feature, popular with both children and caregivers.

Access to outdoor pools at five branches is included when you join by March 31

(West Chester, PA) – The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) is offering free outdoor pool memberships to current members or those who join prior to March 31, 2024. Both current members and new members must have an eligible membership type to receive free access to outdoor pools.

For summer of 2024, outdoor pools are available at the following YGBW branches – Coatesville, Jennersville, Kennett Area, West Chester Area and Upper Main Line. Outdoor pools are open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend – and the 50 Meter Outdoor Pool is available for lap swimming at the Upper Main Line YMCA with an extended season.

Individuals who join the YGBW after the March 31 promotion and wish to use the outdoor pool, will need to pay a separate outdoor pool fee, in addition to their YGBW membership.

A Commitment to Fun and Safety
“Some of the best memories of summer happen around the pool,” shares Kim Cavallero, Vice President of Membership for YGBW. “We’re excited to provide this benefit so that members can get outdoors and enjoy some screen-free summer fun.”

“Our members love the unique features of our outdoor pools,” Cavallero continues. We have an Olympic-sized lap pool at our Upper Main Line branch and a pirate ship slide feature at our West Chester branch. I love to see the excitement of both children and caregivers when they see the pirate ship for the first time.”

While pools bring big fun to members, they also bring big responsibility to YMCA staff. Lifeguards at all YGBW facilities are Ellis-Certified.

“Pools, in general, come with risks and we take that responsibility very seriously,” shared Terri Edgar, Senior Vice President of Branch Operations. “Our pools are staffed by certified lifeguards at all times when they are open. In addition, we conduct regular audits of our facilities, scale usage based on pool size and staffing ratios and routinely monitor water quality. Our lifeguard certification partner, Ellis, also conducts unannounced anonymous audits of our staff and facilities. It’s a rigorous safety process – and for good reason.”

Flexible Career Opportunities
Between outdoor pool season and summer camp, hiring needs skyrocket for YGBW during summer months when the organization will hire an additional 550 team members across Chester County.

YGBW is actively seeking interested candidates for lifeguard, childcare and summer camp positions, as well as other opportunities. The positions offer flexibility and an opportunity to make a significant contribution for individuals of all ages and experience.
