At the YMCA, our greatest priority has always been protecting the health and safety of all who enter our doors. In light of COVID-19, our team has been working around the clock to implement additional procedures and protocols to ensure a socially responsible environment that aligns with our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
What You Can Expect
Enhanced Cleaning & Disinfecting
We have implemented the latest cleaning protocols from the CDC using our EPA-registered solutions. Areas of our facilities will have rolling, brief closures throughout the day for cleaning. We've invested in electrostatic sprayers to ensure thorough disinfection and we’ve adjusted our air handling units to ensure an even higher turnover of fresh air into our branches.
Our staff has been retrained in the latest cleaning and disinfection protocols provided by the CDC and will be focused on continual sanitization of all areas of our facility.
We've reconfigured spaces to allow for social distancing and added clear directional signage throughout our branches to direct the flow of traffic. You'll find fitness equipment spaced out, lobbies with furniture spaced out and markers on the floor to make social distancing easy.
Additional hand sanitizing stations are available throughout our branches.
Anyone older than two must wear a face mask at all times, unless in a pool or showering. Cotton masks or those with a cotton layer on the inside, surgical masks or masks with a clear vinyl window are acceptable. Masks with valves, gaiters, bandanas, scarfs or face shields worn alone without a mask are not acceptable. Masks do not need to be worn when in the pool or when showering. However, masks are to be put back on immediately upon exiting the pool or shower. Those participating in an aqua group exercise class should wear a plastic face shield whenever feasible to protect their fellow class members. For most outdoor activities at the YMCA when social distancing of at least six feet can be maintained, masks are not required. Outdoor tennis is an exception, as masks are required when playing tennis—whether indoors or outdoors. Additionally, children in YMCA childcare and early learning programs will keep their masks on when outside. View our full mask policy.
All staff, members and visitors will review several health screening questions prior to entering the facility and will be temperature-screened. Anyone showing signs of COVID-19 or who has a temperature of 100.3 or higher, will not be permitted to enter for the safety of all members.
Single Entry/Exit Points
To maintain our safety protocols, all YMCA branches will maintain single entry and single exit points. Our doors are clearly marked with signs.
To protect your health and safety, some amenities are not open. As soon as we are confident we can open these areas safely, we will.
As always, all are required to scan in at the welcome desk to access the facility. Stationary scanners are available for contactless scanning. Plexiglass shields have been installed at our welcome desks so that you are able to safely talk with staff.
To protect everyone’s health, water fountains are not available. However, bottle fillers are so be sure to bring a water bottle with you.
Special Hours for Seniors & Those Who Are High Risk
Special hours for seniors, as well as those who are at high-risk for COVID-19, will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3 pm should they feel more comfortable using the Y at a time when it is less crowded.
