YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) Celebrates Healthy Habits Leading into Summer Months
Healthy Kids Day is a free annual event celebrated at YMCAs across the country on April 29.
(West Chester, PA) – With summer approaching quickly, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) invites families to get a healthy start to summer break, hosting Healthy Kids Day celebrations at seven locations across Chester County this week. Healthy Kids Day is a free event that is open to the public from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on April 29.
Attendees can engage in a variety of family-friendly activities such as corn hole, field games, inflatable obstacle courses or moonbounces, wellness demos and more. YMCA staff will provide a preview of Summer Camp activities to inspire children to stay active this summer and will be giving away 100 free sports classes such as soccer, basketball and youth pickleball. Classes take place in June, July and August and are free for members and discounted for non-members.
A Healthy Start to Summer
“Youth Development and Healthy Living are two pillars of our organization,” shares Bridgette Barbera-Byrne, Senior Director of Camp and Family Programs at YGBW. “Healthy Kids Day brings these pillars together in one big celebration of health and wellness. I’m especially excited that we’re able to offer free sports classes this summer to further provide an opportunity for kids to stay active during summer break. We want to show families that staying active is fun and rewarding.”
As school winds down, structured activities decrease for many children – leaving space for unhealthy habits to settle in. That’s why YMCAs across the nation band together on April 29 to celebrate Healthy Kids Day and to showcase the many resources that the Y offers to families throughout the summer.
Locally, Healthy Kids Day is sponsored by S&T Bank, a YMCA Community Partner who is committed to the health of the community. Each year over 100 Community Partners support and extend the mission of YGBW through generous financial contributions that directly benefit the local community, enabling healthy habits during summer months – and all year long.
