YMCA Swimmer Named to USA Swimming National Junior Team

Berwyn, PA – USA Swimming announced its roster for the 2022 – 2023 National Junior Team on Monday, September 19 with just 72 swimmers from across the country making the cut. Invited to the program was local swimmer Alexa Fulton, who is a member of the Upper Main Line YMCA (UMLY) swim team program.  

Fulton who is 17 years old and is currently a Senior at Downingtown East High School has been with the UMLY swimming program for five years.   

“We are incredibly proud of Alexa and all her hard work with us over the past five years. This is a truly exceptional honor. Those selected to the National Junior Team are the fastest young swimmers in the country and our future Olympic hopefuls,” shares Todd Conrad, Associate Executive Director and Swim Team Head Coach at the Upper Main Line YMCA. “Alexa is a true competitor and is an inspiration both in and out of the pool. We look forward to seeing what she will accomplish next.” 

This year’s class of swimmers pull from 61 clubs and from 26 states and the Junior Team consists of athletes ages 18 and under.  

“I am thrilled to join the National Junior Team,” shares Fulton, who will be a Texas Longhorn next fall. “I am thankful to my coaches and teammates at the UMLY Swim Team for all of their support and guidance and I look forward to representing them at upcoming competitions.”  

Since 1971, the UMLY Swim Team has sought to develop good swimmers and great kids. Built on the foundation that lessons learned through competitive swimming will last a lifetime, the program has achieved great success at all ages and many different levels of competition. The program offers year-round competitive swimming for youth ages six to eighteen.  

Fulton joins a growing list of storied UMLY swimmers. The program has had athletes go on to represent the country in international competitions, qualify in multiple Olympic Trials and to swim competitively for colleges and universities across the nation.
