Bridgette Barbera-Byrne, the new director of branch operations for the Oscar Lasko YMCA and Childcare Center in West Chester, joined the YMCA of Greater Brandywine team in late June 2021. Barbera-Byrne is a YMCA veteran, working at several associations across the country beginning in 2011. The bulk of her experience is in leadership of youth development programs.

Moving closer to home, Barbera-Byrne is excited to bring her experience to help make a difference in the Chester County community. As director of branch operations for the Oscar Lasko YMCA, she will put her experience into action at a location heavily focused on youth programs.

“I look forward to working with the dedicated team at the Oscar Lasko YMCA to continue to evolve and expand our offerings to meet the needs of our community,” Barbera-Byrne says.

The Oscar Lasko YMCA currently offers childcare and early learning programs including an academic kindergarten, school-aged childcare programs and summer camps, a long-standing gymnastics program and competitive gymnastics team and several burgeoning new programs such as esports.

In addition to its breadth of youth offerings, the YMCA also is home to a unique functional fitness program, East Chestnut Fitness. It is a perfect counterpart for busy parents or those looking to maximize their time. The program challenges participants to complete functional movements at a high intensity and for short periods of time. Individuals of all abilities can participate and youth options are available.

Barbara-Bryne, who goes by the pronouns “she” or “her,” also has a passion for helping to educate people on the world of diversity and inclusion.

“The YMCA has a strong history of evolution and continued conversations around diversity and inclusion. I look forward to bringing my skills and expertise to the Chester County community and helping to raise awareness and knowledge of how we can all be more inclusive in our daily lives,” Barbara-Byrne says.

The Oscar Lasko YMCA is one of eight locations of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine. To learn more about program offerings or membership opportunities, please visit
