Can non-members or those who have recently canceled their memberships purchase an outdoor pool membership?

Brandywine, Lionville & Jennersville YMCAs

Community memberships are available at our Brandwine, Lionville and Jennersville locations, where you do not need to have or maintain an active YGBW membership to join the outdoor pool. Rates are higher for non-members and do not include guest passes.

Interested in joining the YMCA? Purchase a YGBW membership or Reactivate your suspended YGBW membership today and receive member pricing.

Upper Main Line & West Chester Area YMCAs

You must have an active YGBW membership to purchase a 50 Meter Pool (UMLY) or Water Park (WCAY) membership. (NOTE: All persons on the outdoor pool membership need to have an indoor membership.)

If you'd like to reactivate your membership or purchase a YGBW membership, you can do so with the links below.

What health and safety protocols have been implemented as a result of COVID-19?

Masking is not required.

Our highest priority is always protecting the health and safety of your children, our staff and our members. Due to COVID-19, procedures and protocols are based on the latest directives and recommendations provided by the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the State of Pennsylvania.

Our talented team continually works to ensure the safest experience possible, while ensuring children still have every opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Please review our protocols

Will guest passes be available?

Brandywine, Lionville, Jennersville and West Chester Area YMCA:

  • Membership units (not individuals) of the pool receive three complimentary guest passes per season.

  • Members can bring up to four guests per pass to the outdoor pool as long as they visit at the same time.

  • Additional guest passes are available for purchase for a fee of $15 per person per visit over the age 2+ after using their complimentary guest passes.

Upper Main Line YMCA: Guest passes for the 50-meter pool are not available.

What if I want to use more than one of the open outdoor pools?

Your outdoor pool membership is valid for the YGBW branch for which it was purchased. To access the outdoor pool at a different branch, you will need to purchase the outdoor pool membership for that pool.

What amenities will be available?

Slides

  • Yes, slides will be available. Additionally, the pirate ship will be available at the West Chester Area YMCA.

Chairs

  • We encourage everyone to bring their own chairs as chairs will not be provided.

Restrooms & Showers

  • Outdoor bathhouses are available at the Brandywine YMCA, Jennersville YMCA and West Chester Area YMCA.
  • Indoor personal changing rooms adjacent to the outdoor pool can be used at the Lionville Community YMCA.
  • Portable toilets are available at the Upper Main Line YMCA.

Do Silver Sneakers members have to pay for outdoor pool memberships?

Yes, this cost is not covered by our Silver Sneakers contract.

Are income-based memberships available for outdoor pool memberships and are there payment plans available?

If you currently have an income-based membership, you are eligible for a 15% discount on your outdoor pool pricing or early bird pricing, whichever is greater. More information about financial assistance can be found here.

Payment plans are available for your outdoor pool membership but must be paid in full by the opening day of your selected pool.

Are there any exceptions to the 12 and over rule for lap swimming?

Unfortunately, there is not at this time. Lap swimmers must be 12 or older. We are monitoring pool usage and we’ll certainly consider expanding the age range later in the summer if possible.

Will swim teams have access to UMLY's 50M pool and thus limit availability?

At somewhat regular times throughout the spring, summer and early fall, the pool will be closed to members for swim team practices, meets and other activities. You can always check our online schedule to see what is available.

  • Weekdays: Sunrise to Sunset
  • Saturdays: 7 AM - 12 PM
  • Sundays: 7 AM - 7 PM

Will lap swimmers be able to reserve lanes at UMLY's 50M pool?

There will not be lane reservations this year. In 2020 we had reservations but last year we did not and we always had plenty of space in the pool. A designated staff person will be checking memberships as members arrive to use the 50M pool. They will be stationed at the double doors by the exit to B Pool during the week and by the gate to the 50M pool on weekends. Additionally, B Pool will also have lap swimming available throughout the day.

Why is there a membership fee to the Brandywine and Lionville YMCA's outdoor pools?

To provide the safest experience possible, many procedures such as increased staffing and rigorous cleaning and disinfection are being implemented based on recommendations from the CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health. These procedures come with additional costs; and as a result, it is necessary to charge a minimal membership fee for the outdoor pool. The cost is very reasonable and additionally, financial assistance and payment plans are available.

Are the Lionville Community YMCA and Kennett Area YMCA outdoor pools opening this year?

Yes! Both will be open, however, hours will vary. Please see below.

Lionville Community YMCA outdoor pool* will be open:

  • Monday-Friday: 12 - 7 PM
  • Saturday-Sunday: 11 AM - 5 PM
